| Limited to 7 photographers. Venice's canals reflect mysterious colors and moods. The city floats "between sea and sky, like Venus rising from the waves." In this season of light the colors and details glow. Day 1 (September 30) Venice: Arrive independently or with the group from Florence and meet at our Hotel near San Marco Square-- easy to reach by vaporetto (waterbus) from the train station. Hotel La Fenice et Des Artistes- 5 nights Days 2 - 5 Artists marvel at the quality of the light in Venice in the fall, when the faded pastel 13th C. facades glow. Don leads photo-strolls to demonstrate techniques such as multiple exposures and soft focus to evoke Venice's unique romantic past. San Michele, the cemetery island founded by Napoleon, has the graves of Ezra Pound, Dhiagliev and Stravinsky among others. Each day vaporettos and gondolas ferry us across the Grand Canal to and from San Marco Square. Cobbled pathways (calles) follow the canals to the Frari, Santa Maria Formosa Quarters, and Dorsoduro - three of the most characteristic neighborhoods. Narrow, winding alleys (soporettos) are filled with treasure -- flower pots, gleaming brass door knockers, Madonna's in carved niches, elegant facades with the patina of the ages. We photograph in the liquid light of sunrise and dusk. On the island of Burano, fishermen's cottages are every color combination. San Marco's cultural treasures lure us night and day. Nearby is the Bridge of Sighs, another connection with a bold and dramatic past. Day 6 (October 5) Depart Venice: Our time together ends with breakfast.
