Don Lyon

Limited to 7 photographers.

Tuscany--for classic landscapes choose "in Depth". Includes two nights in Florence and four in Chianti. Wonderful hill towns with winding cobble streets, towers, and churches. Farmhouses are framed by cypress and poplars and the grapes hang lushly on the vine.

Day 1 (Sept. 21)
Florence: Meet at our hotel close to the Arno River and the famous Ponte Vecchio. The Cathedral and Baptistry are focal points as we explore the historic heart of the city of Michelangelo and the Medicis, ending the day with the sunset beside the Arno.
Hotel Balestri - 1 night

Days 2 - 4
South of Siena is a rugged barren landscape called Crete (pro.creeta). We stay in the charming town of Asciano, making day trips out to capture the light on the landscape, the chalk hills, and shepherds with their flocks. Landscapes here are more barren and dramatic, and the small villages are quiet and friendly.
Albergo Il Bergasgliere - 3 nights

Days 5 - 8
Leaving Crete today, we come to the charming village of Castellina in Chianti. Our albergo has thick stone walls, heavy tiled roof, sheltering courtyard, and modern comforts. The 15th C. village walls echo the dramatic history of this hilly land. Photo-explorations of the Tuscan countryside concentrate on nearby villages, home to the Etruscans, predecessors of the Romans. We photograph grand landscapes from castle walls and intimate scenes capture the zestful Italian life. Among rows of grapes, we capture patterns of the fields, sun-warmed vineyards, and olive groves with vistas of medieval villages.

Monteriggioni is girded by 13th C. walls, dominated by stone towers. In places like San Gimignano, or Radda, we wander with camera, discovering intimate beauty. Siena is a Gothic city, older than Rome, rival of Florence. Create patterns of rooftops from the bell tower of the 14th C. City Hall.
Albergo il Colombaio-- 4 nights

Day 9
Florence: We leave Chianti today and drive slowly back to Florence. One last night in this "museum" of Renaissance art with a farewell dinner tonight.
Hotel Balestri - 1 night
