Color, light & the zesty flavors of the Mediterranean - a classical feast with pro Don Lyon. Limited to 7 photographers. Greece is a ripe fruit for the photographer Western civilization, and a warm friendly people. White marble columns lie all but forgotten in fields of red poppies. What stories they tell about our own past as we picnic among the ruins.

Days 1 - 2
Photo Explorations of Athens begin early AM on April 12. (CUE can reserve your room for arrival on 11th) Our hotel is convenient for early and late shooting in the Plaka with the Acropolis rising above. We'll drive to Cape Sounio to capture the Temple of Poseidon in the setting sun.
Hotel Phillipos--2 nights

Days 3 - 4
To Nafplio & the Peloponissos: Via Korinthos Canal to a rich agricultural region where citrus blossoms scent the air. We spend two nights in the very charming red tile roofed city of Nafplio, our base for the theater at Epidavros and Agamemnon's Mycenae.
Agamemnon Hotel--2 nights

Days 5 - 7
Sparti: Southwest across this fig-leaf shaped peninsula to Sparti. Nearby Mistras was the great religious center of the Byzantine Greeks. Many beautiful monasteries remain to decorate the hillside above the modern town of Sparti. Monemvassia, clinging picturesquely to the cliffs, is a favorite with artists.
Hotel Lida--3 nights

Day 8
Olympia: North to Olympia, where, for 1200 years, Greece¹s warring city states challenged each other on the playing field, rather than the battlefield. The ruins of the sacred precinct conjure up the roar of the crowds as the winners are crowned with laurel leaves. Several renowned sculptures are photographed in the museum. We find evocative images of timeless Greece along the roadside.
Andonios Hotel--1 night

Day 9
Delphi: Via Patra, across the Gulf of Corinth to the site of the ancient oracle of Delphi. The Treasuries attest to the influence of the oracle. The Temple of Athena is a highlight sunset.
Hotel Acropole--1 night

Days 10 - 11
To Meteora: Morning photo explorations of the sacred precincts, then on to one of the most intensely visual sights in the world of medieval monasteries clings to the rocks like nests of eagles. The skies are often bold and dramatic in early spring when the first rays of sunlight turn the 13th C. tile roofs to gold.
Divani Kalambaka--2 nights

Day 12
Athens: We return to Athens and reimmerse ourselves in the colorful life of the plakas and tabernas.
Hotel Phillipos--1 night

Day 13
(May 2) Flights Home: Return flights anytime today or stay and explore--ask your guide for ideas.

 

13 Day Greece Land Cost $ 2985.

 

Cost includes accommodations (Double basis), land transportation by van, admissions, taxes, and the services of your photographic guide. Single supplement is $307. A meal budget of $360 is collected--light eaters can expect a refund. Airfare to and from Athens is not included. Cost is based on Euro at $1.28 and costs in effect 10/06--adjustments may be necessary.
